As an immigration law firm, we know how stressful it can be to renew your Green Card. That's why we're excited to share some good news from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
Effective September 10, 2024, USCIS has automatically extended the validity of Green Cards to 36 months for lawful permanent residents who file Form I-90 to renew their expiring or expired Green Card.
This is a big improvement from the previous 24-month extension. Now, your receipt notice will show your Green Card is valid for a full 3 years while you wait for your new card to arrive.
What does this mean for you?
✓ Longer proof of your permanent resident status and work authorization
✓ Less stress and hassle during the renewal process
✓ More time before having to worry about renewing again
This change is especially helpful if you experience longer processing times for your Green Card renewal. Instead of only having 2 years of validity on your receipt notice, you now have 3 full years to work with.
And if you've completely lost your Green Card and need to replace it, you can request an appointment at a USCIS office. They may be able to provide you with an Alien Documentation, Identification, and Telecommunications (ADIT) stamp as temporary proof of your status.
At our firm, Birg Law, we're committed to making the immigration process as smooth as possible for our clients. This Green Card renewal extension from USCIS is a welcome development that should provide a lot of relief.
